Shakti - The Eternal Energy @ The Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2008
05 August 2008

Continued...
Enticed by the strokes of the painter and rhythms of the dancer, the audience lips and slides to arrive at the still point of the turning world, a dynamic collaboration in Kathak and Odissi and Western Contemporary Dance. The performances will demonstrate the relationship that exists between dance, painting and philosophy. It deconstructs the main tenets of the universal female energy ensuring emotive, intellectual and spiritual audience responses. It resonates and amplifies the meanings and depictions of the half male-half female Ardhanaari, the concept of Kali the black void, the overwhelming compassion of Ganges as mother and of the intimate love tales of RadhaKrishna on a full moon night.
‘Shakti‘ explores the feminine energy. The energy that nurtures, cajoles, excites and soothes all of creation. She is the Energy that is at once compassionate and terrible, contained and explosive, simultaneously solid and completely fluid. This vibrant feminine energy, 'is the core rhythm that ripples through the complexities of this interdisciplinary work.
Dancers through their movement become visual artists. Using paint to reflect and deflect movement, the audience is taken on a journey of transcendence. The painting that emerges through the performance, at once explores ritual and philosophy. Presenting the many facets of the female principle, this work was previously performed in Paris , France and Florence, Italy, Perth, Australia, New York and New Jersey, USA.
An intensified reworking of the visual art element has created a fascinating new framework for the performance art genre.
