A New Home

Saraswati Mahavidhyalaya (SMV) is happy to announce that it has obtained its own premises in East Victoria Park (cnr Mint St and Swansea St). Our administration and teaching activities will be operating from this new location from 14th January 2008.

We hope that this will herald a new phase of growth for our activities and we look forward to serving you from our new home.

FuegoAgni: A Flamenco/Kathak Fusion

The Temple of Fine Arts and Academia y Compaņia Arte y Flamenco present FuegoAgni - for the first time, an exciting Flamenco/Kathak Fusion performance that hints at the origin of Flamenco from Kathak and draws on the similarities between the two dance styles. Performed by flamenco exponent, Claudio Javaroni (Academia y Compaņia Arte y Flamenco) and Artistic Director/ choreographer Sarasa Krishnan in Florence, Italy.

Accompanied on Tabla by Maestro Vick Ramakrishnan (TFA Perth) and Sitar Maestro Kumar Karthigesu (TFA KL). Javarone and Krishnan will explore the tonal variations and intricacies of rhythms of the tabla with rhythmic footwork of Flamenco and Kathak. Set at lightening speeds, Javarone and Krishnan will infuse and combine these two styles with thunderous exciting intonation of precise flamenco - kathak rhythms.

Art from the Heart - An magical musical evening of Hindustani Classical music on the Sitar and Tabla that will mesmerise your senses, soothe your soul and lift your spirits. Performed by Award Winning Sitarist Kumar Karthigesu (TFA KL) and accompanied by Vickneshwaran Ramakrishnan on Tabla. Debut Performance: Naad Brahma - The Orchestra

The Temple of Fine Arts proudly presents its first "Naad Brahma" - an orchestra comprising of more than 65 participants including seniors, youth and youngsters. Music composed, arranged and conducted by TFA International Music Director, Pandit Chandrakant Kapileshwari. With a concluding vocal rendition by Pandit Chandrakant Kapileshwari accompanied by Kumar Kartigesu (TFA KL) on Sitar and Vickneswaran Ramakrishnan (TFA Perth) on Tabla.

Spreading its Wings in Europe

Artistic director, Sarasa Krishnan is presently in Florence, Italy conducting a 3 month course in Bharatha Natyam, Odissi and Kathak of Indian Dance. Under the auspices of the Ayurvedic Center of Florence, Sarasa is conducting classes for children, adult beginers and master-classes for teachers of dance. Sarasa is also conducting weekly workshops on Bharatha Natyam, Odissi and Kathak, for the dancers of OPUS BALLET (an academy of dance in Florence, Italy). During her stay she met and collaborated with Flamenco master Manuel Betanzos of Spain.

Kadhambari - A Cultural Beadwork

An exciting beadwork of culturally diverse ideas - from the Eastern Indian classical dance form Odissi to the fusion of Indian Classical & Contemporary dance styles, the Kadhambari delicately braids all forms of movement into one vibrant art handiwork. Performed by the students and teachers of The Temple of Fine Arts (Perth) - the Kadhambari gives a new angle on classical and contemporary dance.

Enjoy an authentic Indian Vegetarian Buffet Dinner at the Annalakshmi Restaurant & enjoy the show. All proceeds support our sister organisation - The Temple of Service (Free Medical Services) in India

The Sari That Mirrors Feminine Beauty

This performance is a unique expression that displays the various traditional and creative drapes of the Sari - a garment that mirrors the very essence of feminine grace and beauty. Enhanced with Indian and modern dance movements, this unique fashion parade explores how the Sari transforms itself through the various stages of femininity in Indian culture; right from the playful child - Bala whose Sari is converted into a skirt, till  her grandmother - Lalitha whose sari reflects her accepting and all loving nature. A performance by the students and artistes of TFA.
